SK Ecoplanet Holds Award Ceremony for Eco-Friendly and New Energy Technology Startup Competition
2021 ConTech Meet-Up Day
SK Ecoplanet announced on the 23rd that it held the award ceremony for the "2021 ConTech Meet-Up Day," a construction technology competition, at the G.plant building in Su-song-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, where it selected eight outstanding companies.
This competition was launched in collaboration with the Korea Institute of Civil Engineering and Building Technology's Smart Construction Support Center and the Foundation for the Promotion of Research and Development Special Zones. It aimed to discover innovative technological ideas in smart construction and eco-friendly and renewable energy sectors from domestic SMEs and began accepting applications in September.
Attending the award ceremony were Park Kyung-il, CEO of SK Ecoplanet; Kang Byung-sam, Chairman of the Foundation for the Promotion of Research and Development Special Zones; Lim Yoon-cheol, CEO of Technology and Value; and Jin Kyung-ho, Head of the Smart Construction Support Center at the Korea Institute of Civil Engineering and Building Technology.
A total of 88 technologies were submitted in the fields of eco-friendliness, renewable energy, and smart construction. SK Ecoplanet comprehensively evaluated the submitted technologies based on excellence, business viability, and potential for joint development, conducting document reviews and presentation assessments before selecting the final awardees. The selected technologies include five in eco-friendliness, one in renewable energy, one in smart construction, and one for construction method improvement, totaling eight. The selected companies will receive various benefits, including commercialization of technology and patent applications, depending on their respective technology fields.
Among the selected companies in the eco-friendly sector, "KCMT" produces glass fiber reinforced plastic (GFRP) reinforcement bars that are 25% lighter and have twice the strength of traditional rebar, using eco-friendly new materials. This method produces over 40% less carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions compared to conventional rebar production, making it a sought-after eco-friendly construction material. "Carbon Value" introduced groundbreaking technology that captures CO2 generated during the fuel cell electricity production process and reuses it as energy, earning recognition as an outstanding eco-friendly technology.
SK Ecoplanet is leading efforts to build a cooperative ecosystem to enhance the technological competitiveness and growth of SMEs and business partners. Since 2017, it has held an annual technology competition and, in April, it launched a program to support technology development for startups in collaboration with the Creative Economy Innovation Center.
Park Kyung-il, CEO of SK Ecoplanet, stated, "We will actively support the technologies discovered through this competition to create new value in various fields." He added, "We will continue to pursue sustainable development through the operation of collaborative programs and the practice of compliance."
